HK logs 1.06m visitor arrivals during first 4 days of Golden Week

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region saw 1.06 million visitor arrivals during the first four days of the National Day “Golden Week” as tourists from the Chinese mainland flocked to the city, according to the Immigration Department (ImmD) of the HKSAR government.

The arrivals recorded Thursday until yesterday included 939,000 arrivals from the mainland and 117,000 from overseas, with a daily average of 264,000, data from the ImmD website showed.

The mainland's seven-day National Day holiday this year lasts from Oct 1 to 7.

The number of visitor arrivals in Hong Kong surged on Thursday, when the country celebrated National Day, with 205,544 arrivals, including 277,304 from the mainland and 28,240 from abroad.

Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po noted in his blog on Sunday that more than 732,000 mainland visitors arrived in the city during the first three days of the National Day break — an 8.4-percent year-on-year increase.

The Immigration Department estimated that total mainland visitor arrivals will reach about 1.29 million during the holiday period, with daily average arrivals up by over 5 percent year-on-year.

The department has implemented measures to cope with the heavy traffic during the holidays, including additional counters and vehicle-clearance kiosks at land crossings.

According to the Hong Kong Tourism Board, visitor arrivals in the city reached 5.46 million in August, the highest monthly total since the COVID-19 pandemic.
