Malaysia’s Johor state has attracted more than 5 billion ringgit ($1.2 billion) in potential investments following meetings with investors during a recent working visit to Singapore, according to Onn Hafiz Ghazi, chief minister of the state.
The proposed investments span high-speed optical technology, health technology and semiconductor manufacturing equipment, he said in a Facebook post on Friday. The projects could also bring new technology, expertise and jobs to the southern Malaysian state.

The interest adds to Johor’s emergence as a major investment hub, helped by its proximity and growing economic ties with Singapore as Malaysia seeks to draw more high-tech industries. It is home to a special economic zone jointly developed by the two countries and launched last year. The state was also Malaysia’s biggest investment destination in 2025.
Access to highly skilled workers was among investors’ main considerations, Onn Hafiz said, adding that the state is prioritizing workforce development through the Johor Talent Development Council.
