The Hong Kong Observatory said it will consider hoisting a typhoon warning signal on Tuesday or Wednesday as Tropical Cyclone Narra gradually moves closer to the territory.

The observatory said in a weather bulletin on Sunday afternoon that Narra was expected to linger over the vicinity of Beibu Wan before turning northeastwards gradually later on Monday to Tuesday, edging closer to the vicinity of Leizhou Peninsula.

The HKO added that it will assess the need for issuing tropical cyclone warning signals on Tuesday or Wednesday, urging members of the public to take note of the latest weather information.

As of 4 pm Sunday, Narra was centered about 240 kilometers west-northwest of Haikou and was forecast to move slowly, the observatory said.

Meanwhile, Tropical Cyclone Gaenari near Taipei has come within 800 kilometers of Hong Kong but, with its relatively weak intensity and small circulation, its direct threat to the city is not high, the HKO said.

It added that Gaenari is forecast to dissipate gradually in the vicinity of Taiwan Strait later on Sunday and Monday.

Hong Kong is expected to see showers increasing gradually with squally thunderstorms on Monday, with temperatures ranging between 27 and 31 degrees Celsius, the observatory said.
