The Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) stood out among leading airports from across the globe, including top-tier airports in Asia, the Middle East and other regions, emerging as the best airport in the world at the Global Travel Awards 2026.
According to the Airport Authority Hong Kong, the award is based on votes cast by millions of travelers globally, recognizing organizations that demonstrate excellence in aviation infrastructure and passenger experience.
The award follows several prestigious recognitions the HKIA garnered recently for its outstanding performance in areas including security processing, aviation infrastructure, passenger services, and continuous enhancement of passenger facilities.
The airport was voted “Best Airport in China” for the third year in a row in the 2026 TTG China Travel Awards, which recognize outstanding performance by travel service providers including airlines, hotel groups and other travel-related businesses.
The Hong Kong airport has also been named by Skytrax as the winner of “World’s Best Airport Security Processing” and “World’s Best Airport Washrooms” at the 2026 World Airport Awards, in recognition of its steadfast dedication to enhancing passenger experience, ensuring aviation safety and delivering service excellence.

“We are truly honored to receive the best airport awards across such a wide range of areas, which reflect the dedication and collective efforts of the entire Hong Kong International Airport community,” AAHK Chief Executive Officer Vivian Cheung Kar-fay said while commenting on the recognition at the Global Travel Awards 2026.

The HKIA will continue to expand its air network for both passenger and cargo traffic to reinforce the city’s role as the hub of Asia, she added.
The recent awards underscore the airport's commitment to maintaining rigorous security standards while actively leveraging innovative technologies to deliver an efficient and seamless passenger experience, the AAHK said in a statement.
Besides having fully automated security gates, immigration channels and boarding gates through facial recognition, the airport is currently undertaking a comprehensive upgrade of security screening channels across all areas, replacing traditional X-ray channels with CT-driven screening, it said.
The authorities expect that the forthcoming Terminal 2 will incorporate the efficiency enhancement, alongside other upgrades of passenger facilities.
Looking ahead, the AAHK CEO said that the development of SKYTOPIA, which stands at the heart of the Airport City blueprint, will transform the HKIA into an Airport City, “creating a dynamic destination that inspires travel, drives connectivity and welcomes the world to Hong Kong.”
