The popular annual Bougainvillea Show in Shenzhen opened over the weekend, enhanced with new exhibition zones and expansive roadside displays that tie in with the ongoing 15th National Games.

This year's event breaks from tradition by creating an integrated "two parks, one road" layout, merging the flower shows at Lianhuashan Park (莲花山公园) and Bougainvillea Valley Park (宝安簕杜鹃谷公园) with themed floral landscapes along Shennan Avenue.

The main venue at Lianhuashan Park features over 200,000 square meters of display areas, presenting nearly 320 varieties of bougainvillea arranged across 20 distinct scenic spots. The layout is organized around a central axis connecting eight sections, offering visitors an immersive horticultural experience.

Two new gardens debut this year. Zimo Garden (紫陌园), located east of the park near Xiaofeng Yangri Lake (晓风漾日湖), covers approximately 7,000 square meters and features a massive "flower carpet" created from nearly ten thousand bougainvillea plants arranged on flower stands. Yuxiu Garden (毓秀园), near Lianhua Lake (莲花湖), displays nearly 10,000 pots of bougainvillea bonsai and potted plants, including 90 new varieties, five of which are shown for the first time.

Complementing the floral displays are multiple cultural activities within the park. The third Park Coffee Festival gathers over 100 coffee brands at the Coconut Grove Lawn (椰风林草坪), operating with a "coffee by day, music by night" format alongside giant bougainvillea-themed hot air balloon installations for photos. The adjacent Park Park Go creative art festival offers a cultural market with more than 900 creative products from over 30 brands.

The Bao'an Bougainvillea Valley Park (宝安簕杜鹃谷公园) serves as the branch venue, integrating floral scenery with Hakka cultural elements. Visitors can explore a bougainvillea science museum dedicated to the vining plant native to South America, walk through the city's longest bougainvillea corridor, and enjoy activities like robot patrols, magic displays, flower field concerts, and open-air movies.

Beyond the parks, the city has incorporated the bloom into its urban fabric. While bougainvillea hedges naturally color the roads, dedicated display areas totaling 2,400 square meters are set up along Shennan Avenue at key locations like Crystal Island (水晶岛) and Xiangmi Lake Interchange (香蜜湖立交), combining bougainvillea with motifs from the National Games.

Bougainvillea, the city flower of Shenzhen, is celebrated for its vibrant bracts and versatile nature. The show runs until Nov 21, and visitors are encouraged to use public transport as parking at Lianhuashan Park is suspended during the event.
