The fifth plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China will be held from Oct 26 to 29 in Beijing, according to a decision made on Monday at a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.

Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, presided over the meeting, which studied major issues on strengthening full and rigorous Party self-governance with perseverance.

During the meeting, the CPC leadership heard a report on feedback gathered from both within and outside the Party regarding the draft document of the CPC Central Committee's decision on strengthening full and rigorous Party self-governance with perseverance.

It was decided that, following revisions based on discussions at this meeting, the draft document would be submitted to the upcoming fifth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee for deliberation.

An earlier draft of the decision was circulated among Party members and non-Party figures for comment, drawing broad support from those consulted.

The process of soliciting opinions was conducted in a democratic manner, gathering a wide range of insights, according to a statement issued after the meeting.

Those who were consulted said that the draft decision realistically summarizes the achievements and experiences of comprehensively and strictly governing the Party in the new era, the statement said.

The meeting noted that the document provides an objective assessment of the achievements and experience in advancing full and rigorous Party self-governance in the new era, offers an in-depth analysis of the situation and tasks facing Party building in the present and coming period, and sets out strategic plans for continuing to advance full and rigorous Party self-governance.

The document reflects the historical initiative of the CPC Central Committee, with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, to strengthen both the Party and the nation, and holds practical and long-term guiding importance for advancing Party building in the new era, and for uniting and leading people of all ethnic groups across the country to comprehensively promote the construction of a strong nation and the great cause of national rejuvenation through Chinese modernization, the meeting said.

The meeting stressed that it is imperative to uphold the Party's overall leadership and the centralized, unified leadership of the CPC Central Committee, and focus on enhancing the Party's long-term governance capacity, maintaining the Party's advanced nature and integrity, and preserving the close ties between the Party and the people.

The meeting highlighted the need to fully recognize the significance and urgency of unswervingly advancing full and rigorous Party self-governance, adopting higher standards and taking more concrete measures to address the prominent issues facing Party building while consolidating and building on the sound political environment fostered through the Party's self-governance.
