
China never "pulls up the ladder" for any country's development, instead it strives to build ladders through efforts including the Belt and Road Initiative, technology sharing, and zero tariffs, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday, refuting claims that China is impeding Global South countries' development.
At a daily press briefing in Beijing, a reporter cited recent claims that China is solely focused on its own development and is "pulling up the ladder" away from other countries in the Global South.
In response, spokesperson for the ministry Mao Ning said that the "pulling up the ladder" narrative has no supporting evidence.

"We provide cost-effective industrial equipment and technological products, share experience and technology, and help countries in the Global South reduce the costs of industrial development," she said.
"Helping others succeed while achieving our own aspirations is the fundamental value underpinning China's international cooperation," she added.
