SINGAPORE – Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region Sam Hou-fai said on Monday that the advancement and implementation of China's 15th Five-Year Plan and Macao's third five-year plan will undoubtedly open up new opportunities and expand horizons for Macao-Singapore cooperation.

Sam made the remarks at a reception in Singapore hosted by the Macao SAR government.

Over the past 27 years since Macao's return to the motherland, the Macao SAR has successfully implemented the "one country, two systems" principle, under which the people of Macao administer Macao with a high degree of autonomy, maintaining long-term prosperity and stability, he said.

Sam said that this year marks the start of China's 15th Five-Year Plan, and to strengthen alignment and coordination with it, the Macao SAR government officially announced Macao's third five-year plan, and will provide foreign investors with an attractive and reliable investment environment.

Sam said Macao remains committed to promoting exchanges and cooperation at all levels – both official and non-governmental – between Macao and Singapore.

In her address, Singapore's Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Trade and Industry Gan Siow-huang said that Macao and Singapore have long maintained a friendly and close relationship, achieving fruitful outcomes in cooperation across the fields of trade and investment, tourism, education, and people-to-people exchanges.

Looking ahead, both places could leverage their complementary strengths to further deepen collaboration in tourism and urban development, and work together to seize new opportunities arising from regional development and economic growth, she said.

Sam is on an official visit to Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia from Saturday to Sept 5.
