MOSCOW – The Russian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday that following the end of a ceasefire, the Russian Armed Forces have resumed their special military operation.

Russian forces observed the ceasefire from Friday to Monday, remaining in positions previously held throughout the period, the ministry said in a statement.

"With the end of the ceasefire agreement, Russian forces have continued conducting the special military operation," it said.

Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile launched

Also on Tuesday, Russia successfully test-launched its latest Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), TASS news agency reported.

The Sarmat ICBM can reliably strike assigned targets and perform strategic deterrence missions, significantly enhancing Russia's combat capabilities, TASS reported, citing Commander of Russia's Strategic Missile Forces Sergei Karakayev.

Noting that Russia has been developing unique, advanced strategic systems to penetrate all missile defense systems, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the Sarmat is the world's most powerful ICBM system, capable of breaching all current and prospective missile defense networks.

The Sarmat boasts a range of over 35,000 km, and the warhead yield is more than four times greater than any Western equivalent, Putin said, noting that it will be deployed by the end of 2026.
