
The support fund established by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government to provide long-term assistance to Tai Po fire victims has reached HK$4.1 billion ($128.6 million).
Donations for the Support Fund for Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po totaled about HK$3.8 billion as of noon Monday, the HKSAR government said in a statement.
“With the start-up capital of HK$300 million from the government, the fund's total has now reached around HK$4.1 billion. The fund will be used to assist residents in rebuilding their homes and providing long-term and sustained support,” the statement reads.
The SAR government said it has processed 1,935 applications for the HK$100,000 living allowance from the support fund to be given to each affected household.

It added that 146 cases have been processed for the HK$200,000 token of solidarity for families of each deceased victim and HK$50,000 to cover funeral costs.
The SAR government earlier announced that it was also providing flat owners at Wang Fuk Court a grant of HK$100,000; an annual rental grant of HK$150,000 for two years and a one-off relocation grant of HK$50,000; and a one-off relocation grant of HK $50,000 for affected tenants. The allowances will be disbursed in phases.
As of Monday morning, a total of 516 fire victims were staying in hotel rooms provided through the coordination of the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau while 568 residents are staying in youth hostels/camps.

Another 3,513 residents were in transitional housing units provided by the Housing Bureau, units from the Hong Kong Housing Society, or Po Tin Interim Housing in Tuen Mun.
Authorities said that there are still more than 1,000 available units for affected residents in need of longer-term accommodation.

The blaze which ravaged Wang Fuk Court on Nov 26 killed at least 161 residents and damaged seven of the eight blocks at the residential complex.
