
Companies and organizations in Hong Kong have arranged donations to support residents affected by the catastrophic fire that ripped through the Wang Fuk Court residential estate in Tai Po district overnight, killing 44 and leaving hundreds homeless.
Tycoon Li Ka-shing extended his condolences to residents who suffered losses in the tragedy and expressed gratitude to first responders.
“Mr. Li Ka-shing joins all Hong Kong citizens in expressing deep gratitude to the courageous firefighters and all first responders for their extraordinary bravery, compassion, and unwavering dedication to protecting our community,” the Li Ka Shing Foundation said in a statement.
The foundation announced a HK$30 million emergency fund to support registered charities, particularly those serving Tai Po, in providing both immediate relief and longer-term assistance.
It will also set aside HK$50 million for follow-on relief efforts, and provide support for firefighters and first responders killed or injured in the line of duty through its existing Disciplinary Services Fund.

Local jewelry giant Chow Tai Fook said it will contribute HK$20 million ($2.57 million) to provide relief supplies for affected residents, while also arranging for its subsidiaries to offer temporary shelter, food and daily necessities.
Chinese mainland sportswear company Anta Sports Products Limited announced it will donate HK$10 million in cash and HK$20 million worth of winter gear to help displaced victims meet basic living needs and cope with the emergency.
Several McDonald’s outlets — including the Tai Po Market, Tai Wo, and Fortune Plaza branches —will provide free food and beverages to residents impacted by the blaze.
In addition, McDonald’s said it would deliver 1,000 free breakfasts to sports centers and community halls housing affected citizens, including Tung Cheong Street Sports Centre, Fu Shin Community Hall and Tai Wo Neighbourhood Community Centre.
Food distributor Ng Fung-hong said it has activated its emergency response plan, and has delivered its first batch of relief supplies to temporary shelters.

Meanwhile, Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po, who is visiting Milan in Italy, will cut short his trip and return to Hong Kong earlier than scheduled.
