BAGHDAD - Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani affirmed on Tuesday that the Coordination Framework (CF), an umbrella alliance for Shi'ite parties and the country's current ruling coalition, will initiate dialogues with other political forces to form the upcoming government.
Al-Sudani made the remarks in a speech during the sixth Middle East Peace and Security Forum in Duhok of the country's Kurdistan region, where he confirmed the CF's designation as the largest parliamentary bloc after the parliamentary results were revealed, according to a statement by al-Sudani's media office.
Late on Monday, the CF announced its designation as the largest parliamentary bloc, comprising all its constituent entities, and its move to proceed with nominating the next prime minister.
According to its statement, the CF formed two high-level committees to advance the government formation process. The first will lead discussions on national entitlements and develop a unified vision for running the state. The second will be responsible for interviewing and vetting candidates for the prime minister position based on professional and national standards.
The Iraqi electoral commission announced Monday the final results of the Nov 11 parliamentary elections, confirming a strong performance by al-Sudani's political coalition. The final tally showed that al-Sudani's Reconstruction and Development Coalition secured 46 seats in the 329-member Council of Representatives, which ranks first.
