Bougainvillea (簕杜鹃) and sulphur cosmos (硫华菊) are currently putting on a spectacular show at two popular viewing spots in Shenzhen, making for perfect autumn excursions, according to the WeChat public account of Shenzhen municipal government’s tourism bureau.
As the city flower of Shenzhen, Bougainvillea is loved for its vibrant colors and long flowering season, with peak blooms often occurring during spring and autumn.
A particularly stunning display can be found at the parking lot entrance of the Xianhu Botanical Garden (仙湖植物园), where the bougainvillea cascades create a breathtaking sea of pink, white, and yellow flowers, giving the entire structure the look of a floral cruise ship.
To visit, take Shenzhen Metro Line 2 or 8 to Xianhu Lu (仙湖路) station. The most convenient exit for the parking lot is C2. There is no need to pay for entrance to the botanical garden to see the floral spectacle.
For a different vibe, head to Xili Ecological Park (西丽生态公园) and witness a sprawling, golden field of sulphur cosmos flowers. Footpaths wind through the blooms, allowing visitors to take picturesque photos immersed in the golden hues. The blooming period is expected to last several weeks.
The park offers more than just flowers. It also features a viewing deck offering city vistas and a glass-floored footbridge.
Access is convenient via Shenzhen Metro Line 5 to Liuxiandong (留仙洞) station, with both exits A and C leading towards the park. Admission is free and the park is open from 6 am to 5:30 pm.
