Guangzhou volunteers display perfect precision ahead of 15th National Games opening ceremony
These dedicated individuals may not be athletes, but they are training with the same intensity and dedication as if they were preparing for a major competition. Their goal is to win recognition for their professionalism and hospitality as hosts at the upcoming 15th National Games.
With just 30 days before the opening ceremony on Nov 9, the volunteer hosts are in the midst of intense rehearsals. They will carry flags and signs, escort athletes, and perform ceremonial duties. Selected from local civil aviation college and art schools, their final preparations include precise drills and strength training, ensuring every detail is perfect for the nationwide broadcast.
“Keep your hands steady! Use your body’s strength to counter the weight of the signs,” a coach declared during a recent training session in Guangzhou, Guangdong province. Repeating movements dozens of times is standard practice, often under the scorching heat, which tests both physical stamina and concentration.

“Remember, there might be wind once we enter the venue, so hold the flags firmly and engage your entire body. Let’s run through it again,” the coach urged.
By dint of rigorous training, the volunteers have honed their posture, walking pace and smiles, while also improving their familiarity with the process, teamwork and adaptability, as well as — most importantly — their resolve.
With an average age of just 18, the team in Guangzhou is eager to showcase the vibrant and uplifting spirit of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area’s young people. This energetic region is ready to welcome new attention during this sports gala.
