HONG KONG - More than 16,000 volunteers were appointed Sunday to serve in the Hong Kong competition region at China's 15th National Games.

A pledging ceremony was held at Queen Elizabeth Stadium, where nearly 1,800 volunteer representatives took an oath to uphold their service commitments and were presented with flags.

The volunteers will form the largest team of its kind in Hong Kong. Their duties will include arrival and departure assistance, hotel reception, spectator services, guest reception, anti-doping support, and presentation ceremony assistance.

Rosanna Law Shuk-pui, secretary for culture, sports and tourism of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government, said the volunteer group includes more than 1,000 youths aged 15 to 17, along with over 15,000 adult volunteers from varied age groups and backgrounds, the oldest being over 80. "They share the same philosophy and passion for service to support the two national mega sports events with devoted actions," she said.

The volunteer service slogan is "Be more wonderful for you". Here, "you" represents not only the events themselves, but also everyone who witnesses, participates in and supports them. "Wonderful" reflects both the athletes' performances and the volunteers' contributions.
