Hong Kong woke up to a stormy Monday morning as tropical storm Tapah came within 170 kilometers of the city as it moved towards western Guangdong.

The Hong Kong Observatory raised the Gale or Storm Signal, No 8 on Sunday night as the tropical storm brought heavy showers and squalls to the territory.

Day schools were closed Monday while ferry services and bus routes were suspended or adjusted but there were no reports of major flooding or landslides.

China Daily's Adam Lam and Edmond Tang took the photos on Monday.
