A 23-minute fireworks display featuring 31,888 pyrotechnic shells in eight scenes is set to light up Victoria Harbour on National Day, channeling positive energy and embodying national unity.

Under the theme “Eternal Radiance Fireworks in Bloom, Illuminating Our Country”, this year’s spectacle will be launched from nine firing points across three barges and six floating pontoons in the harbor. The event, with an overall budget of around HK$18 million ($2.3 million), was announced at a news conference by representatives of the sponsor and the production team on Wednesday.

Beginning at 8 pm on Oct 1, the display will feature patterns such as sunflowers, peonies, vibrant red hearts and yellow stars, accompanied by soundtracks that include classic Hong Kong hits, pop songs, and selections from the Chinese mainland and abroad. Sound equipment will be set up around the Hong Kong Cultural Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui and the Golden Bauhinia Square in Wan Chai to enhance the viewing experience.

Wilson Mao, CEO of Pyromagic Multimedia Productions, recommended the second scene as a highlight. It will feature gold and red ring patterns, symbolizing hope, warmth and optimism, and reflecting the resilience and confidence that inspire the community.

The fourth chapter, “Dreams in the Starry Galaxy”, will be presented together with The Most Beautiful Sun by mainland pop singer Zhang Jie. It will showcase interstellar patterns such as shifting colorful spheres and cosmic trails. It aims to celebrate the courage of Hong Kong people to pursue their dreams, break new ground and strive for their aspirations.

Mao highlighted some technical breakthroughs this year. For example, precise timing design will make the circular fireworks rings achieve a perfect rotation in the second scene.

Clement Lam Ka-yin, CEO of Sun Life Hong Kong — the sponsor of this year’s fireworks — said that the display celebrates the nation’s achievements and expresses heartfelt wishes for Hong Kong’s continued prosperity and success.

As a flagship annual event, the National Day fireworks showcase the vibrancy and charm of Hong Kong, Lam said, adding that he felt honored to contribute to the city’s status as Asia’s premier events capital.

Prime viewing spots include Tsim Sha Tsui, Mid-Levels, Central, Wan Chai, Causeway Bay, and the Hung Hom bypass. RTHK Radio 4 will broadcast live synchronized music during the show.
