WASHINGTON/TEHRAN/DOHA - The US Central Command said on Sunday it has completed the third round of strikes against Iran this week after hitting some 140 targets.

The targets included missile and drone launch sites, ammunition dumps, communication equipment and other sites, the command said in a post on social media platform X.

"Iran was provided yet another opportunity to demonstrate adherence to the Memorandum of Understanding after being held accountable for earlier attacks on commercial vessels but has again failed," the command said in an earlier post on X.

Iran's Press TV reported on Sunday that explosions rocked several cities in southern Iran and the country has launched a series of strikes against US targets in the Middle East. Missile alert sirens sounded in Bahrain as the United Arab Emirates and Qatar came under attack, reports said.

Qatar's Ministry of Interior said on Sunday that three people, including a child, were injured after shrapnel fell during interception operations carried out in response to alleged Iranian attacks.

In a statement, the ministry said that the injured were receiving the necessary medical treatment.

Security agencies and civil defense teams activated approved emergency response plans following the latest security developments, said the ministry.

Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) said it has destroyed a command and control center and drone hangars at the Prince Hassan air base in Jordan.

Iran said earlier that the Strait of Hormuz was closed after a vessel traveling on an unapproved route was struck, warning that any retaliation over the incident would be met with a "severe response".

"A vessel that had jeopardized maritime security by switching off its systems was struck and brought to a halt," the IRGC navy said in a statement.

As a result of the incident, the strait would remain closed "until further notice" and "until the end of US interference in this region", the statement said.

Iran: Talks impossible till US retreats from its positions

Iran will not enter negotiations with the United States until Washington backs down from its positions, semi-official Fars news agency reported Saturday, rejecting earlier media reports that Iran had sought such negotiations.

Citing a source close to the Iranian negotiating team, Fars said the start of negotiations would depend on US implementation of the recently signed peace memorandum of understanding, including ending the conflict and securing an Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon, as well as resolving issues related to maritime transit through the Strait of Hormuz, among other issues.

Also on Saturday, Iranian media released a written message by Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, in which he said the deaths of late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and others killed in the Israel-Iran conflict in June last year and the US-Israel-Iran conflict in February this year must be avenged.

Taking revenge on the "criminals, whose full list is available", is a demand and will of the Iranian nation and must definitely take place, Mojtaba Khamenei said.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in late February during the opening hours of joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran. His funeral ceremonies were held over recent days in Iran and Iraq, with his burial taking place on Friday in the northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad.

In June 2025, Israel launched surprise attacks on Iran's nuclear and military sites, triggering a 12-day conflict, during which the United States bombed Iran's three major nuclear facilities.

In late February, joint US-Israeli strikes targeted Tehran and other Iranian cities. Iran responded with waves of missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and US interests in the region, and tightened its grip on the Strait of Hormuz, barring safe passage of vessels belonging to or affiliated with Israel and the United States.

In mid-June, Iran and the United States signed the MoU aimed at ending the conflict on all fronts, including Lebanon. However, the two sides have traded fresh attacks since Tuesday night, with the United States launching multiple waves of strikes on Iranian targets and Iran striking US military sites in the Gulf region.

Pakistan urges US, Iran to exercise restraint

On Sunday, Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar urged the United States and Iran to follow the path of de-escalation and exercise restraint, as agreed in the MoU, the Foreign Ministry said.

Dar held a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, during which they exchanged views on the evolving regional situation, the ministry said in a statement.

Dar underscored that "dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path to resolving disputes and achieving lasting peace and stability in the region," the statement added.

He also reiterated Pakistan's readiness to continue playing a constructive role in promoting and maintaining regional peace and stability, the ministry said.

UKMTO: Container ship hit, catches fire off Oman

In London, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said late Saturday that a container ship sustained damage and caught fire following an incident off the coast of Oman.

The UKMTO said it received a report of the incident about 16.7 km east of the Gulf country at 2240 GMT Saturday.

"Military authorities have reported that a container ship has sustained damage to the rear of the vessel, which has caused a fire onboard," the advisory said, adding that authorities were investigating the incident.

The UKMTO did not disclose the name of the vessel.

Separately, the US Central Command said that the GFS Galaxy, a Cyprus-flagged container ship, was attacked by Iran's IRGC when transiting the Strait of Hormuz, leaving a crew member missing.

The vessel was unable to continue its journey due to an onboard fire and significant damage to its engine room, the command added.

One Indian national missing after attack on commercial ship

On Sunday, India condemned the attack on the commercial vessel GFS Galaxy carrying Indian nationals off the coast of Oman.

While 10 Indians were rescued, one was still missing, said the latest media reports.

Oman, Iran agree to continue talks on Hormuz Strait

Meanwhile, Oman News Agency reported Saturday that Oman and Iran have agreed to continue technical and political talks on navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

The two sides held talks in the Omani capital on ensuring the safety and freedom of navigation through the strait in light of recent developments, the report said.

They agreed to continue discussions at both the technical and political levels aimed at reaching necessary understandings in accordance with international law, it said.
