
The death toll from the deadly fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po has risen to 168, Secretary for Security Chris Tang Ping-keung announced on Thursday evening.
Tang said that this number is expected to be final, confirming that all deceased have been identified and all missing persons cases have been resolved.
Out of respect for the families, the government will not publicly disclose the names of the victims, Tang added.

The blaze, broke out on Nov 26 last year, charred seven blocks of the eight-towered estate, displacing thousands of families. It was finally put out after 43 hours. Among the causality was the 37-year-old fireman Ho Wai-ho.
Over 80 percent of the 4,400 residents displaced by November’s Tai Po fire have moved into interim housing units provided by public and private agencies.
