The final stretch of the 13-kilometer promenade along the northern shore of Hong Kong Island opened on Monday morning, providing more shared spaces for members of the public to enjoy the stunning views of Victoria Harbour.
The Eastern Section of the East Coast Boardwalk in North Point opened at 6 am, marking the last 1.1 kilometer of development for the harborfront promenade that stretches from Kennedy Town to Shau Kei Wan.
The Eastern Section connects the North Point Promenade to Hoi Yu Street in Quarry Bay, realizing the vision of "Seamless Boardwalk Linking Island West and East".
In his 2022 Policy Address, Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu unveiled a plan to develop a “Round-the-Island Trail” of about 60 kilometers on Hong Kong Island for locals and tourists by connecting the waterfront promenades on the northern shore and a number of existing promenades and countryside walking trails in the Southern District.

The SAR government had been implementing the project in phases since 2023, aiming to connect 90 percent of the Trail by the end of 2027 and substantially completing all remaining works by 2031.
The Eastern Section includes an experiential glass observatory deck, providing visitors with direct views of the harbor beneath the Boardwalk, and a pet-friendly area near Tin Chiu Street.

The observatory deck will be open from 10 am to 6 pm daily, with visitors entering the observatory deck required to wear shoe covers provided on site, mainly for safety purposes and for protection of the glass surface.
The Eastern Section will also have a number of multi-functional open spaces for exhibitions, art and community activities. Food kiosks and multi-purpose spaces are expected to open in the first quarter of next year.

There is also a small plaza at the eastern end of the Boardwalk near Quarry Bay, along with a widened footpath at Hoi Yu Street to improve accessibility while a movable bascule bridge has also been installed near Man Hong Street for marine operations.

Several local artists have been invited to enliven these spaces with art installations, as well as to showcase graphics of marine life and the Eastern District mascot "Dong Dong" visiting popular attractions in the District on the bridge piers.
The Western Section, connecting the East Coast Park in Fortress Hill and the North Point Promenade, was opened earlier this year, and was well received by the public.
