Hong Kong’s September exports up 13.8% y-o-y

HONG KONG – The volume of Hong Kong's total exports and imports of goods in September increased by 13.8 percent and 11.4 percent, respectively, over the same month last year, according to data released by the Census and Statistics Department on Thursday.

External merchandise trade statistics also showed that the volume of the city’s total exports of goods and imports of goods in the first nine months of this year rose by 11.3 percent and 10.8 percent, respectively, compared with the same period in 2024.

Comparing the third quarter of 2025 with the preceding quarter on a seasonally adjusted basis, the volume of total exports of goods fell by 0.8 percent, while the volume of imports of goods remained virtually unchanged.

The prices of total exports of goods and imports of goods in September rose by 2.4 percent and 2.0 percent, respectively, year-on-year, showed the data.

In September, year-on-year increases were recorded for the total export volume to all main destinations: Vietnam (46.1 percent), China's Taiwan (25.6 percent), India (15.4 percent), the Chinese mainland (14.8 percent), and the United States (4.3 percent).

Over the same period of comparison, the total export prices to all main destinations rose: Taiwan (5.1 percent), Vietnam (2.7 percent), the mainland (2.3 percent), India (2.0 percent), and the US (0.5 percent).

Meanwhile, increases were recorded for the import volume from Vietnam (62.3 percent), Singapore (27.2 percent), the mainland (19.1 percent) and Japan (9.0 percent) in September over the same month last year. The import volume from Taiwan fell by 22.0 percent.

Over the same period, import prices from all main suppliers increased: Singapore (4.9 percent), Taiwan (4.5 percent), Japan (3.0 percent), the mainland (0.7 percent), and Vietnam (0.4 percent).
