10 newborns dead in fire at north India hospital

NEW DELHI - At least 10 newborn babies died, and a few others were injured after a massive fire broke out inside a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of a medical college in north India, confirmed a local official over the phone.

The incident occurred at around 10:45 pm local time on Friday night at the Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College in the Jhansi district of the northern state of Uttar Pradesh.

According to local media reports, there were nearly 70 newborn babies admitted inside the NICU when the fire broke out.
