All public museums in Hong Kong will offer free admission on National Day and arrange special activities to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Kevin Yeung Yun-hung said on Wednesday.
Residents have been able to enjoy many exhibitions showcasing Chinese history and culture in recent months, Yeung said. They included The Ancient Civilisation of the Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasties in Henan Province, which ran at the Hong Kong Museum of History from April till earlier this month. This exhibition displayed over 150 cultural relics from those dynasties.
The Hong Kong Heritage Museum will also host a Chinese costume event, and public libraries will organize thematic book displays to mark the anniversary, Yeung said

The Fragrance of Time - In Search of Chinese Art of Scent exhibition, running at the Hong Kong Museum of Art through Oct 16, explores the rich history and cultural significance of incense in China, showcasing artifacts from the neolithic period to the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) from the collections of the Shanghai Museum and Hong Kong Museum of Art.
The Hong Kong Heritage Museum will also host a Chinese costume event, and public libraries will organize thematic book displays to mark the anniversary, Yeung said.
He said this year’s Mid-Autumn Lantern Carnival at Victoria Park will promote the National Day theme, with a special Chinese costume show planned with residents invited to participate by dressing in traditional Chinese attire.

Yeung said that the special administrative region government will make every effort to arrange the preparations for National Day, so as to create a vibrant and lively atmosphere of celebration throughout society.
