BEIRUT/JERUSALEM - At least seven were killed and more injured on Wednesday in an Israeli strike on an emergency and relief center in south Lebanon, Lebanese military sources told Xinhua.

The sources said Israeli warplanes destroyed the Emergency and Relief Center of the Islamic Health Authority, affiliated with the Islamic Group, in the village of Al-Habbariyah, killing seven of its paramedics and wounding others inside.

The Islamic Group is an Islamic political organization with a military wing under the name "al-Fajr Forces" that has recently carried out military operations against the Israeli army.

The Islamic Health Authority issued a statement saying that the raid on their center is a heinous crime and a flagrant violation of international laws and conventions.

"We hold the party that carried out this heinous crime fully responsible, and we also call on the Lebanese authorities to take the necessary measures to prosecute the criminals in international courts," it said.

"This aggression will not pass without response and punishment," said Hezbollah, vowing to retaliate.

Meanwhile, a man was killed as a rocket attack launched Wednesday by Hezbollah militants in Lebanon struck a factory in the city of Kiryat Shmona in northern Israel.

About 30 rockets were fired at the city, said the Israeli army.

The 25-year-old young man was pulled out of the factory hit by the rockets, Israel's Magen David Adom rescue service said in a statement.

The Lebanon-Israel border has been witnessing increased tensions since Oct 8, 2023, after Lebanese armed group Hezbollah fired dozens of rockets at Israel in support of the Hamas attack on Israel the previous day, prompting Israel to respond by firing heavy artillery toward southeastern Lebanon.

The confrontation between Hezbollah and Israel has claimed 378 lives on the Lebanese side, including 244 Hezbollah members and 73 civilians, according to Lebanese security sources.
