Hong Kong on Friday held a funeral with full police honors for late senior police constable Chu Chun-kwok, who died last month after spending 21 years paralyzed from injuries sustained in the line of duty.

Officials and representatives of the Police Force attended the Universal Funeral Parlour in Hung Hom to pay their final respects to the dedicated officer.

Following the morning service there, the cortege traveled to Cheung Sha Wan Police Station, where a farewell ceremony allowed fellow officers to pay their tributes before the cortege proceeded to Gallant Garden for the final burial ceremony.

Chu’s injuries dated back to 2005, when he stopped a suspicious man while on patrol alone. The man slashed his neck with a knife. Despite bleeding heavily, Chu chased the attacker for about 50 meters before collapsing.

He survived but suffered severe brain damage from blood loss and was left fully paralyzed and bedridden. He passed away at Kwong Wah Hospital on Sept 16 this year, at the age of 52.
