HONG KONG — Hong Kong’s MTR will cut fares by half across much of its network on Saturday, in what the operator is calling “Thank You Day” – a gesture of gratitude to passengers for their continued support.
Under the promotion, commuters using an Octopus card will receive a 50 percent discount on every fare-paying trip on the MTR, Light Rail and MTR Bus. Passengers on the heavy rail network can also claim the discount by scanning a QR code.
The savings can add up. Octopus users can combine the half-price offer with interchange discounts, Fare Saver discounts and a 25 percent discount on connecting journeys covered by the Monthly Pass.

However, there are limits. Octopus users cannot apply the offer to First Class Premium on the East Rail Line, the Airport Express or MTR Feeder Bus.
QR code users will face narrower restrictions: The discount does not apply to First Class Premium on the East Rail Line or the Airport Express, and it cannot be combined with any other fare promotion.
Travelers paying with e-Single Journey Tickets or contactless bank cards are excluded from the promotion.
