PYONGYANG – The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Thursday conducted an underwater test-firing of what it called "a new-type superspeed precision-guided torpedo weapon system", the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on Saturday.

The test-launch of the torpedo weapon system Zam-2.0, conducted by the Academy of Defence Science, the Missile Administration and the Torpedo Weapon Research Bureau of the DPRK, was designed to "confirm the successful technical updating" of the underwater attack weaponry, KCNA said.

AI technology was applied to the target detection and the guidance functions of the new weapon system, the report added.
