KYIV – Ukrainian forces have successfully intercepted Russian jet-powered drones for the first time using artificial intelligence-guided gun turrets, local media reported on Monday, citing Ukraine's Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ihnat.

"The use of innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence has eliminated human error. Machine vision is used in the shooting down. Artificial intelligence allows you to target even jet-powered drones," Ihnat said.

"On Sunday, our comrade died," said Alexey Likhachev, director general of Russia's state nuclear corporation Rosatom. "The main heroes are the ZNPP personnel, who, around the clock, under enemy shelling, ensure the operation of the facility. And believe me, this is very difficult."

Early in the day, plant authorities said in a statement that two Ukrainian drones also attacked a laboratory and a residential building, damaging the roof. No casualties or a threat to nuclear safety were reported.
