Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s delegation continued its medal hunt at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on Friday, pocketing six medals, including three by the sailing squad.

The city’s tennis ace, Coleman Wong Chak-lam, has assured the SAR’s historical tennis singles medal after beating Uzbekistan's Khumoyun Sultanov. Wong will face the China national team’s Wu Yibing for gold on Saturday.

Hong Kong sent about 580 athletes to compete in 38 events at the Games, which will conclude on Sunday. As of Friday, the delegation has won 46 medals — seven golds, 17 silvers, and 22 bronzes.

Among the haul on Friday were two golds from the youth skiff events. In the boys’ division, 15-year-old Asian Games debutants, Ethan Kiu and Louis Polson, dominated a six-team field, topping all 12 races and scoring 11 net points to take gold on Friday morning, with a commanding 24-point lead over second-place Singapore under sailing’s low-point scoring system.

Fellow Games newcomers Chloe Kong and McCarley Wong later competed against three other teams in the girls’ event, winning nine of the 12 races to secure first place.

Speaking after the race, Kong said they will review mistakes they’ve made, move forward with a fresh mindset, set new goals, and keep improving.

In addition, Olympian Nicholas Halliday claimed silver in the men’s ILCA 7 dinghy, only two points behind South Korean champion Ha Jee-min. The victory fulfilled Halliday’s podium ambition after finishing fourth and missing out on a medal at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games.

The SAR’s women’s squash team also won a silver after losing 1-2 to Malaysia, making the team’s second consecutive runner-up finish. The city’s squash players finished their Asian Games journey with one gold, two silvers, and two bronzes.

Tennis duo Eudice Chong and Wong Hong-yi lost 0-2 to Chinese Taipei pair Chan Hao-ching and Wu Fang-hsien in the women’s doubles semifinal, but still pocketed a bronze medal, as there was no bronze-medal match.

Cyclist Lee Sze-wing secured another bronze in the women’s omnium event, her second medal in the tournament.
