NAGOYA, Japan - Seventeen-year-old sprint sensation Chen Yujie led China to gold in the inaugural mixed 4x100m relay at the 2026 Asian Games on Tuesday.

A strong finish from Chen Yujie propelled China past Thailand to win the mixed 4x100m relay. The quartet of Chen Jinfeng, Liu Guoyi, Shi Junhao and Chen Yujie clocked a season-best 40.78 seconds.

The victory gave Chen Yujie her third gold medal in a spectacular Asian Games debut, following her titles in the women's 100m and 4x100m relay. She also won silver in the 200m.

China completed a sweep of all three 4x100m relay titles. Thailand took silver in 40.87, while India claimed bronze in 41.06.

Elsewhere on the final day of athletics, China's Zhang Jiale broke the Asian record to win the women's hammer throw with 78.27 meters. Zhang's compatriot Zhao Jie took silver, while Japan's Joy Iris McArthur got bronze.

China's Wu Hongjiao won the women's 800m, while Japan's Ko Ochiai took the men's title in a Games-record 1:44.48. In the men's pole vault, Ernest John Obiena of the Philippines cleared a Games-record 5.91 meters to win gold, ahead of China's Yao Jie and Li Chenyang.

As the badminton competition also concluded, South Korean world No 1 An Se-young became the first player to retain the women's singles title at the Asian Games, reinforcing her dominance by claiming a second consecutive women's singles gold. The 24-year-old defeated home favorite and world No. 3 Akane Yamaguchi 21-17, 21-9 in the final.

"It really does feel like a dream. I am so happy," said An, who has lost just once in 57 matches this season. "Everything I put into it keeps coming back to me. It is overwhelming."

South Korea also won the women's doubles, with Lee So-hee and Baek Ha-na defeating China's Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning in three games.

In the men's doubles, newly crowned world champions Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang of China took the opening game 21-19, but Indonesia's Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin fought back to win the next two 21-13, 21-18 and claim gold.

Thailand's Kunlavut Vitidsarn won the men's singles title by defeating Singapore's former world champion Loh Kean Yew 21-12, 21-16.

China took the mixed doubles title as Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin rallied from 18-13 down in the opening game to beat Indonesia's Amri Syahnawi and Nita Violina Marwah 21-19, 21-8.

China finished the badminton competition with two gold, three silver and three bronze medals.

Surfing made its Asian Games debut at Aichi-Nagoya, with the men's and women's shortboard competitions also serving as qualifiers for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

China's first Olympic surfer, 17-year-old Yang Siqi, took silver in the women's shortboard after losing to Japan's Mirai Ikeda in the final. In the men's event, Japan's Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Kanoa Igarashi defeated Indonesia's I Made Pajar Ariyana to win gold.

The weightlifting witnessed Iraq's Ali Ammar Yusur Rubaiawi lift 219kg in the snatch to set a world record in the men's over 110kg competition. He finished with a total of 465kg to take silver, while Iran's Ali Davoudi won gold with 466kg.

Uzbekistan's Akbar Djuraev also broke the snatch world record with 197kg on his way to the men's 110kg title. China won both the women's 86kg and over 86kg divisions.

In the pool, China continued its diving dominance with two more titles as Chen Yuxi won the women's 10m platform and Wang Zongyuan triumphed on the men's 3m springboard.

China also struck gold in both team sprint events as track cycling got underway. The women's team successfully defended its title in an Asian-record 45.370 seconds.

China added another gold in the women's trap team event in shooting.
