Hong Kong track cyclists won bronze in the men’s team sprint at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan on Tuesday, earning the city its first cycling track medal at the Games.
With their bronze, Hong Kong’s medal tally rose to 35 — five golds, 12 silvers and 18 bronzes, as of 5 pm Tuesday.
Facing Malaysia in the race for bronze, the special administrative region’s Mok Tsz-chun, To Cheuk-hei and Yung Tsun-ho clocked a time of 43.507 seconds. The Malaysian team finished in 44.341 seconds.
The trio finished fourth in the qualifying match on Tuesday morning, before a finishing time of 44.116 seconds in the first round sent them into the bronze-medal race.

Also on Tuesday, the SAR’s women’s squash team proceeded to the quarter-finals after beating Mongolia 3-0 in the group stage. They will face off against Qatar on Wednesday.
The city has sent about 580 athletes to compete in 38 sports in the Asian Games, which run from Sept 19 until Oct 4.
At the quadrennial multi-sport meeting’s previous edition in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province in 2023, the SAR delegation bagged a record 53 medals – eight golds, 16 silvers and 23 bronzes.
