The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region delegation extended its medal streak at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan on Monday, clinching two bronze medals in the table tennis and esports.

In the women’s doubles semifinals, paddler duo Doo Hoi-kem and Pedrey Ng Wing-lam faced the world’s top-ranked pair Hina Hayata and Miwa Harimoto of Japan.

Doo and Ng opened the match strong by establishing an early four-point lead at 5-1, yet the Japanese pair fought back to win the opener 11-6. The SAR’s duo subsequently lost the next two games 5-11 and 4-11. During the fourth game, the Hong Kong pair managed to take an early lead, but failed to sustain their advantage, ultimately losing 4-11.

Despite the defeat, Doo and Ng earned the HKSAR’s lone table tennis medal at this year’s Asian Games, marking the 10th consecutive edition of the Games where the HKSAR table tennis team has reached the podium.

Meanwhile, the SAR’s esports team earned its second medal at the Asian Games. The squad – comprising of Cheng Ka-hin, Kwok Ho-wa, Kong Tsz-kin, Li Ka-hing, Deng Xinzhan and Chui Sum-ki – faced the Malaysian team in the Honor of Kings semifinals after defeating players from Laos the previous day. Unable to continue their dominance, the SAR’s players shared the bronze medal with the Philippines as no third-place playoff was held.

On Friday, the esports team fought and secured a bronze medal following the events of The King of Fighters, Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8.

The Hong Kong delegation has so far captured 34 medals at the 20th Asian Games – five golds, 12 silvers and 17 bronzes.

The Hong Kong, China team sent a delegation of about 580 athletes competing across 38 sports at the 2026 Asian Games, which runs from Sept 19 to Oct 4. At the last edition in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province in 2023, the city won 53 medals — eight golds, 16 silvers and 29 bronzes.
