PYONGYANG – The Japanese neo-militarists are "bringing a whirlwind of building a war-capable state and reviving an aggressor nation," pushing the peace and security environment in Northeast Asia to a critical phase, said an article carried by the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) Tuesday, written by an international security affairs analyst of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

While the Korean Peninsula is witnessing the joint Freedom Edge military exercises by the United States, Japan and the Republic of Korea running from Sept 7 to 11, the article said, Japan's Self-Defense Forces are set to conduct the largest-ever Orient Shield exercises with US and Australian forces in and around Hokkaido from Sept 8 to 24.

The Orient Shield exercises will reportedly involve the use of US Typhon Mid-range missile system deployed in Japan, it noted.

Japan has in recent years spent a huge amount of its military expenditure on deploying long-range strike means, and now "resorts to bilateral and multilateral joint military exercises with the US and its vassal forces," said the commentary, calling such moves "a manifestation of their sinister scheme to round off its real war capabilities against the DPRK and other neighboring countries."

The commentary said that Japan, over the past 80-odd years since its defeat in World War II, has put its whole territory of the archipelago ranging from Hokkaido to Kyushu into a nuclear forward base and a logistic base of the United States for aggression on the DPRK, clamoring about its status as an "unsinkable aircraft carrier."

"The attempt of the Japanese neo-militarists to turn the whole archipelago into an 'unsinkable aircraft carrier' will inevitably bring about enormous misfortune," it warned.
