BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.4 percent to 3,828.47 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.1 percent higher at 13,658.44 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by these two indices stood at 2.3 trillion yuan ($338.74 billion), up from 2.03 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Food, dairy, retail, and gaming stocks were among the top gainers, while stocks related to lithography equipment, memory chips, advanced packaging, and glass substrate led the declines.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.55 percent to close at 3,378.7 points.
The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 0.54 percent lower at 1,861.24 points.
