More than 41,000 revelers celebrate as Hong Kong Sevens sizzles

The 50th anniversary of the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens reached new heights on Saturday as more than 41,000 fans packed Kai Tak Stadium for a day of high-energy entertainment and nostalgia. 

The atmosphere was electrified by the Vengaboys, who performed their biggest hits to a capacity South Stand, and DJ Hanna, who maintained the festive vibe among the 41,457 revelers into the evening.

A centerpiece of the day was the traditional March Past, which honored the tournament's history by featuring pioneers from the original 1976 event alongside youth players.

On the pitch, the local teams faced challenging results as the tournament headed toward its grand finale. The Hong Kong, China men’s team narrowly lost 14-7 to Japan but remains in contention for the Melrose Claymores title due to their strong performance on Friday. 

Meanwhile, the women's team fell 24-12 to Thailand, leaving their final prospects uncertain. Despite these setbacks, the event continued to demonstrate its status as a premier "M" Mark sporting fixture, successfully blending world-class rugby with a vibrant carnival atmosphere.
