Song extends greetings to Taiwan compatriots ahead of Chinese New Year

BEIJING - The Chinese mainland's top Taiwan affairs official has extended festive greetings to Taiwan compatriots ahead of the Spring Festival, also known as the Chinese New Year, and reaffirmed the mainland's commitment to promoting economic cooperation and integrated development between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait.

Song Tao, head of both the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remarks during cross-Strait Spring Festival celebration events on Wednesday.

The events were held in Fuzhou of East China's Fujian province, and attended by more than 200 people, including representatives of Taiwan's business community.

During the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030), the mainland will strive to provide a broad space for Taiwan enterprises to take root and develop here, and will inject greater impetus into cross-Strait economic cooperation and integrated development, Song said.

He expressed the hope that Taiwan compatriots will oppose "Taiwan independence" firmly, promote national reunification, and steer the correct course of cross-Strait relations.

During the events, Taiwanese businesspeople and other compatriots expressed their gratitude to the mainland for its long-term care and concern.

Describing the Chinese mainland as the best market for people from Taiwan to invest in and start businesses, they showed confidence in developing here. They also pledged to safeguard peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, and to contribute to the peaceful and integrated development of cross-Strait relations.
