The Foreign Ministry has said demanding China's participation in China-US-Russia arms control negotiations is "neither fair nor reasonable".

When asked about Washington's proposal to include China in the arms control negotiations, the ministry's spokesman Lin Jian said on Tuesday that "the nuclear capabilities of China, the US and Russia are completely on different scales".

"At this stage, demanding China's participation in arms control negotiations is neither fair nor reasonable," he said.

Also at the daily news conference in Beijing on Tuesday, a reporter noted that there has been no substantive response from Washington to Russia's initiative on the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty that will expire soon.

In response, Lin said China has noticed that Russia previously put forward constructive proposals on follow-up arrangements for the treaty.

"We hope the US will respond actively and genuinely uphold global strategic stability," he said.
