The first blood dialysis center established by a Hong Kong enterprise opened in Shenzhen on Saturday, providing high-quality and affordable medical options for end-stage renal disease patients, while alleviating pressure on Hong Kong's public healthcare system.

Hong Kong has over 11,200 end-stage renal disease patients, with approximately 20-30 percent requiring blood dialysis treatment. The demand for cross-boundary treatment for kidney patients has been increasing annually. In 2023, Shenzhen provided 700,000 treatment services for Hong Kong residents.

Aiming to serve this demand, the Medi-Union blood dialysis center is just a 10-minute walk from Luohu Port, one of the busiest crossings between Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

Founded by veteran specialists and medical entrepreneurs from Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland, the center features a Hong Kong-style medical service and will integrate medical resources and clinical expertise from both regions.

The center is equipped with 60 state-of-the-art hemodialysis machines, featuring fully motorized adjustable dialysis chairs and beds, VIP private dialysis suites, and one-on-one professional nursing care.

The number of kidney failure patients in Hong Kong increases by over 1,000 each year, with many requiring two to three dialysis sessions per week to help remove fluids and toxins from their bodies.

Public hospitals in Hong Kong have relatively long waiting times, while private institutions are often expensive, and high-quality private dialysis centers are scarce on the mainland. This center aims to fill that gap.
