BEIJING - China's border checkpoints are expected to see a surge in cross-border passenger flows during the New Year holiday, according to the National Immigration Administration (NIA) on Monday.

The country is projected to see an average of more than 2.1 million inbound and outbound trips per day over the holiday period, up 22.4 percent year-on-year, said the administration.

Passenger flows are expected to peak on the evening of Dec 31, 2025, and on Jan 1, 2026.

Major international airports, including Shanghai Pudong, Guangzhou Baiyun and Beijing Capital, are expected to be among the busiest during the New Year holiday.

The NIA has required border inspection authorities across the country to enhance their monitoring of cross-border passenger flows and port operations. Additionally, they are required to provide timely information to assist travelers in planning their trips.

Authorities have also been instructed to ensure that Chinese citizens wait no longer than 30 minutes for border clearance by deploying sufficient on-duty personnel, improving on-site guidance, and better organizing duty arrangements.

Travelers are advised to check border traffic conditions before traveling, and Chinese citizens should review the safety situation and entry policies at their destinations, the NIA added.
