Hong Kong athletes delivered a stunning final-day performance at the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities (NGD) and the 9th National Special Olympic Games (NSOG) on Sunday, securing seven medals in boccia and swimming to conclude a record-breaking campaign.

The city’s boccia squad dominated the podium, claiming two golds, two silvers, and one bronze medal in Sunday’s finals. The gold rush began with a commanding one-two finish in the men’s doubles BC4, where Leung Yuk-wing and Tang Zhijiang seized the title ahead of teammates Wong Kwan-hang and Chu Lok-sing, who took bronze.

Vivian Lau Wai-yan and Cheung Yuen swiftly added another gold, overpowering their opponents from Guangdong 7-1 in the women’s doubles BC4.

Silver medals were earned by Ho Yuen-kei and Chan Ho-yan, following a narrow 3-4 defeat to Chongqing in the women’s BC3 doubles final, and by the women’s BC1/BC2 team, which fell 5-8 to Beijing.

Sunday marked the conclusion of all events held in the Hong Kong competition region, including boccia, wheelchair fencing, and para table tennis. With the earlier conclusion of NSOG table tennis on Dec 9, Hong Kong’s role as a host venue has drawn to a successful close.

This year, Hong Kong sent its largest-ever delegation to the Games, with over 280 athletes supported by 140 officials and medical staff. The team competed across 14 NGD events and seven NSOG events, achieving a historic haul of 140 medals: 51 golds, 49 silvers, and 40 bronzes.

The two badminton events for the 12th NGD and the 9th NSOG held in the Macao division also concluded on Sunday, with the finals awarding 25 and 67 gold medals respectively.
