Hong Kong cyclist Lee Sze-wing on Sunday succesfully defended her title in the Women's Road Cycling Individual at the 15th National Games, bringing the city’s medal tally to two golds so far in this year's games.
The 138.7-kilometer race, which took place in Zhuhai, saw about 100 cyclists competing. The competition grew fiercer in the last 10 km. Lee, who had managed to maintain a favorable position, fully showcased her ability to sprint, passing the finish line at 3 hours 19 minutes and 54 seconds. She was followed by Wei Xiaoqing from Guangdong and Sun Jiajun from Liaoning.
Speaking after her triumph, Lee attributed her win to her teammates’ help.

“In the final sprint, I told myself I couldn't lose. This was the result of the entire team's hard work. I trusted my teammates, and no matter what challenges arose, I had to tough it out and push through," Lee said.
Lee said her victory was largely thanks to her Hong Kong teammates who fought alongside her to close the gap on their rivals, and they also gave their all to help her break through. Also, throughout the entire race, the coach used an intercom to explain how to catch up, Lee said.

Herve Dagorne, head coach of the Hong Kong cycling team, said that Lee and all members of the Hong Kong team worked extremely hard and performed exceptionally well. He expressed pride in their achievements and said he hopes Lee will continue to improve, aiming to reach the next level at next year's Asian Games in Nagoya.
"I am thrilled and excited that Lee Sze-wing has won a gold medal for Hong Kong at the 15th National Games. She has once again brought glory to Hong Kong following her gold medal at the last Games, fully demonstrating that Hong Kong athletes are capable of competing with top-tier athletes in high-level competitions," said Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law Shuk-pui following the win.
