
HONG KONG – The Guangdong Olympic Sports Center in Guangzhou is all set to host the opening ceremony of the 15th National Games of China on Sunday, featuring a fusion of traditional Lingnan culture with a history spanning thousands of years, with cutting-edge technology.
The ceremony – which will mark the start of the first National Games jointly hosted by Guangdong province, Hong Kong, and Macao – will creatively incorporate iconic landmarks from the three regions, such as Victoria Harbour, the Ruins of Saint Paul’s, and Guangzhou Tower, into its stage design.
Unfolding in three chapters, the performance will show Lingnan lion dance, Cantonese opera, and dragon boat races, all enriched with artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and robotic technologies.
The closing ceremony, set to be held in Shenzhen on Nov 21, will highlight the city’s status as a technology hub with performances supported by big tech names such as Huawei and display manufacturer Unilumin Group.
Beijing-HK cooperation
The 28th Beijing Hong Kong Economic Cooperation Symposium will open at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on Wednesday, focusing on the two cities’ complementary strengths.
Total 160 two-way investment projects will be unveiled at the event, with a combined value exceeding 60 billion yuan ($7.72 billion). Multiple cooperation agreements in technology, digital economy, and financial services will be signed, alongside new deals between commerce, intellectual property, and other government departments from both sides.
Since its launch in 1997, the symposium has seen 650 cooperation projects signed, with a total contract value of more than $120 billion. Landmark projects such as the business complex Indigo Phase II and the Beijing Metro Line 14 have grown out of past editions.
Return of Grand Prix
Kicking off on Thursday, the 72nd Macau Grand Prix is set to feature seven races, including the Greater Bay Area GT Cup and the 57th Edition of Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix.
Ticket prices for the event range from MOP 100 to MOP 1,200.
A variety of activities surrounding the event, including an auto show showcasing numerous participating vehicles for the races this year at Tap Seac Square from Nov 8 to 9, have been chalked out to stimulate the atmosphere.
To better promote racing culture, a photo competition will be held again, encouraging residents to engage with the events in various ways.
Hi-tech fair
Recognized as one of the most influential tech shows in China, the 27th China Hi-Tech Fair will be held at Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center (Bao’an) from Nov 14 to 16.
The fair is set to gather more than 5,000 brand exhibitors and 400,000 professional attendees from over 100 countries and regions.
Numerous featured zones are settled to showcase cutting-edge technology and innovation across various fields, including state key laboratories, low-altitude economy, top tech industry chains, etc.
Activities, including investment conferences, exchange meetings, and forums, will be hosted throughout the fair.
