This November, experience the thrill as the National Games – the country’s premier quadrennial sports showcase – makes its historic debut across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The buzz starts right in Hong Kong with a spate of spectacular early actions.
From Oct 31 through Nov 8, Victoria Park will transform into a dynamic beach volleyball arena, hosting a series of beach volleyball matches that build toward a crescendo – the men’s and women’s gold medal finals on Nov 10.
The indoor arena at Kai Tak Sports Park, meanwhile, will come alive with the fast-paced energy of the men's handball from Nov 1 to 5, 7 to 8, and 10. The sport’s group stage will open in what promises to be rousing matchups, as the Hong Kong team takes on rivals from Macao, Beijing, Shanghai, and Anhui province.
The Games’ opening ceremony in Guangzhou on Nov 9 will mark its official start, followed by 12 days of over 400 medal events featuring 34 sports.
Big day for HK's IPO scene
Four companies are set to go public on the main board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on Tuesday, further fueling the city’s thriving initial public offering market.
SANY Heavy Industry, a leading Chinese construction machinery manufacturer, and CIG Shanghai, a company specializing in information and communication technologies, are already listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange.
While SANY aims to raise up to HK$12.35 billion, Deepexi Technology, which focuses on enterprise artificial intelligence solutions, expects to raise HK$609.8 million.
The other company to ring the bell the same day is Bama Tea, China’s top provider of premium tea leaves in terms of sales revenue in 2024.
Phase 3 of Canton Fair
The third phase of the 138th China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair) will kick off in Guangzhou next Friday, focusing on daily-use products like toys and home textiles.
Products such as sports and leisure items, pet supplies, and maternity and infant goods will also be displayed during the five-day event.
This three-phase Canton Fair has attracted more than 32,000 exhibitors with 74,600 booths, both record highs. The first phase, themed advanced manufacturing, concluded on Oct 19, while the ongoing second phase highlights gifts, decorations, and building materials.
