Head-of-state diplomacy plays an irreplaceable role in providing strategic guidance for China-US relations, said the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Tuesday. 

Spokesman for the ministry Lin Jian made the remarks when asked about the reported phone call between the two countries' heads of state later this week.

US President Donald Trump said he would speak with the Chinese leader on Friday, following talks between negotiators from the world's two largest economies resulted in a consensus on a basic framework for properly resolving issues related to TikTok, reducing investment barriers, and promoting relevant economic and trade cooperation.
