HONG KONG – As a premier platform for dialogue between China and Switzerland, the St. Gallen Symposium Hong Kong–GBA Forum returns next Thursday to Hong Kong – a vital gateway for European capital seeking Asian exposure and for Asian families pursuing restructured outbound partnerships.

Under the theme “Shifting Global Clout: Hong Kong’s Role in a Changing World”, this year’s forum will explore a spectrum of pressing issues ranging from regional leadership, cross-border trade, and capital investment to technology industry evolution and innovation.

Bringing together family offices, investors, entrepreneurs, and policymakers, the forum aims to offer insights into navigating an increasingly fragmented yet interconnected global environment shaped by shifting geopolitical dynamics.

Equity market boost

Hong Kong is set to welcome two new initial public offerings next week, injecting fresh momentum into the city’s robust equity market.

Hesai Group, a leading automotive LiDAR sensor manufacturer from the Chinese mainland, eyes HK$3.9 billion ($497 million) in its upcoming listing. The company plans to use the fund to support its research and development and expand its production lines.

Set to debut on Sept 16, Hesai is offering 17 million shares for as much as HK$228 each.

Meanwhile, mainland healthcare platform 160 Health International Limited is slated to list a day later. It is offering about 33.6 million shares globally, with the capital raised marked for strategies including expanding medical resource coverage and exploring value-added services.

Jewelry trends & innovations

Hong Kong prepares to reaffirm its status as the epicenter of the global jewelry trade next week as Jewellery & Gem WORLD (JGW) returns, transforming the city into a sprawling business-to-business marketplace.

The flagship event is expected to draw thousands of international buyers with over 3,000 exhibitors and 40 themed pavilions.

The sourcing journey begins from Sept 15 to 19 at the AsiaWorld-Expo, dedicated to raw materials with three distinct fairs themed respectively on gemstones, diamonds, fine gems, and pearls.

Another leg of the exhibition will take place in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from Sept 17 to 21, focusing on finished goods, innovation, and design. This segment will showcase everything from finished jewelry and packaging solutions to cutting-edge technology.

National Longboard Surfing Open

China’s top longboard surfers are set to ride the famed waves of Xichong Beach No. 4 in Shenzhen’s Dapeng New District at the 2025 National Longboard Surfing Open this weekend.

Renowned for its world-class conditions — clear waters, reliable waves, and a smooth sandy bottom, the venue offers an ideal stage for elite competition.

The event will showcase the nation’s very best surfers and includes a dedicated U-Series tournament designed to spotlight the next generation of rising talent.

Spectators traveling by car have been advised to plan ahead as temporary traffic controls will be enforced, and private vehicles with nine seats or fewer must obtain a travel permit in advance.

Parking is available at the beach-adjacent P7 lot or at the P3 lot with regular shuttle service to the venue.
