Over 30,000 fireworks will emblazon the sky over Victoria Harbour on Oct 1, including depictions of giant pandas and aerospace exploration, to present a spectacular 23-minute display on National Day.

Nearly 200 free seats and meals will be reserved for residents from grassroots families and ethnic minorities, according to a press conference held by the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, Hong Kong (CGCC) — sponsor of the display — on Tuesday.

Beginning at 8 pm on Oct 1, the display will incorporate popular themes such as the giant pandas, the animation blockbuster Ne Zha series, the supply of Dongjiang water to Hong Kong, as well as the nation’s aerospace exploration represented by the Shenzhou missions.

One of the scenes will showcase red, purple and green fireworks symbolizing the joint efforts of Guangdong province and the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions in co-hosting the 15th National Games.

All eight scenes will be accompanied by diversified melodies from top artists. For instance, the chapter of Dongjiang water will be presented together with a song from Chinese mainland singer Zhou Shen. A panda-themed song by local pop singers Keung To and Ian Chan will also resonate during the display.

Residents can enjoy the fireworks display from multiple locations along both sides of Victoria Harbour or via live television broadcast.

Choi said the fireworks will kick off with a display showing the pattern of “125”, as this year also marks the 125th anniversary of the establishment of CGCC.

He said he hopes that through meticulous arrangement and diverse content, the show can bring joy to residents and visitors during the National Day holiday.

This marks the third year that the CGCC has sponsored the National Day fireworks display. The amount topped HK$18 million ($2.31 million) this year.
