HONG KONG - The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's Candidate Eligibility Review Committee (CERC) on Monday announced that the nomination of 100 candidates for the Election Committee (EC) Subsector By-elections has been determined as valid.
In addition, 10 nominations for EC members and eight registrations of ex-officio EC members have been determined by the CERC as valid.

The nomination period for the 2025 Election Committee Subsector By-elections ran between July 22 and Aug 4. The by-elections will fill a total of 93 vacancies in the membership of the EC to be returned by election involving 28 subsectors, while another 10 vacancies involving five subsectors to be returned by nomination will be filled through supplementary nominations by designated bodies.

The Election Committee, comprising 1,500 members, is composed of 40 subsectors under five sectors. Its members are responsible for nominating HKSAR chief executive candidates, electing the HKSAR chief executive, electing 40 members of the Legislative Council (LegCo) of the HKSAR, and nominating LegCo candidates.
The CERC is responsible for assessing and validating the eligibility of candidates in the EC, chief executive and LegCo elections.
