'CDHK will continue to drive new and important dialogues'
By China Daily

As China Daily Hong Kong Edition celebrates its 25th anniversary, I would like to recognize how very much InvestHK has valued our partnership over the years.

Without doubt, CDHK is a great partner in our promotion of Hong Kong. Our team has been working closely with your newspaper to tell the powerful story of Hong Kong, and we will continue to do so. We also value your high-quality events, which provide excellent platforms to delve even deeper into the most important issues of the day. At the personal level, I have appreciated working with CDHK for well over 16 years in my current and past roles. So as we both celebrate 25th anniversaries, we look forward to continuing and building upon our partnership.

It normally takes at least a century of high-quality operation for a newspaper to make a name for itself in the media world. Yet, in barely a quarter of a century of operations, China Daily Hong Kong Edition has earned the respect of the business community and serious readers of world events. It thus deserves to be heartily congratulated for the respect it has earned worldwide on its 25th anniversary.

Its success is mainly attributable to the professionalism and dedication of its staff, its integrity, and its editorial balance and scope as can be seen by its wide range of elite commentators.

It was also able to successfully introduce Chinese culture and China’s preservation of nature to many of its foreign readers. In short, CDHK has been acting as an ambassador to tell the good China stories to the outside world.

I wish it continued success in serving an international readership, thereby winning not just more readers for itself, but more friends for China.

Tony Kwok Man-wai, Former deputy commissioner of ICAC

China today is an ongoing miracle in human history. It is making history, and helping to build a world that is better for everybody. China Daily Hong Kong Edition is contributing to this.

I have relied on CDHK as a source of information, cultural enrichment, and intellectual stimulation. It is never short of interesting stories about politics, life, and it offers an authoritative source of information about every aspect of development in China. The infographics and photos are neat. They tell life as it is experienced in China.

Several years ago, I wrote an article on the innovative “co-location” immigration clearance arrangement introduced at the new Kowloon High Speed Rail terminus. It took a fresh, comparative and constructive look at this plan. No one else had done this. However, as it did not mesh with the widely argued conventional wisdom about co-location, I found it hard to get the article published. On a recommendation, I sent the article to the opinion-page editor at China Daily Hong Kong Edition. Within a very short time I had a positive response confirming acceptance.

I have been writing regularly for CDHK ever since. Better still, I have been actively encouraged to write and express my own views on a wide range of matters including, for example: legal topics, international relations, geopolitics, comparative pandemic matters, media performance, plus taxation and education and politics and human rights in Hong Kong.

This has been one of the best writing relationships I have ever experienced: professional, responsive, respectful and constructive. I have been pleased to see the sustained quality of open discussion in CDHK, especially during the difficult times following the extended, damaging insurrection that began in mid-2019 and the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Warmest congratulations on this 25th anniversary. CDHK has established itself as a key English-language newspaper in Hong Kong, which adds a further considered voice to the wider media discussion in the special administrative region. This is a vital, productive role it looks set to maintain over the next 25 years and well beyond.

Congratulations to China Daily Hong Kong Edition on its quarter-century of publication. As a fairly seasoned traveler of China and seeing the country for what it is and its people for what they are, I have always felt disdain for the Western media’s biased coverage of all things Chinese. I felt it a duty to put things right to balance the negative reports so that readers can draw their own conclusions. I try to cover my stories with facts and not innuendos, and spiced with opinion based on 50 years’ experience in the area. I have been fortunate enough to have witnessed the massive changes that have taken place on the mainland during the past half-century, and they have been nothing short of a miracle. CDHK provides the vehicle for me to express my outpourings on a country that I admire and defend and which also offers such a rich cultural heritage, unrivaled anywhere in the world.

Mark Pinkstone, Former chief information officer of the Hong Kong government

The English-language China Daily Hong Kong Edition is, for me, an excellent journalistic representation of measured reporting from a national perspective.

In 2015 one of my Australian postdocs was impressed by the paper’s content, breadth and flavor so I took note and concurred.

CDHK is now 25 years old, bringing mainstream, fair reporting, with a large local flavor, to our fair city.

Many claim it is a Beijing mouthpiece but even if a national narrative naturally suffuses some stories and opinion pieces they are generally far more honest, unbiased and clear than whole swathes of the Western press.

So hearty congratulations to the journalistic achievements of the first 25 years and to many, many more to come.

I have been a reader of China Daily Hong Kong Edition since its creation 25 years ago. It has been a precious source of information for me on China and Hong Kong affairs, and it is a great media that has made a great contribution to bridging China and the rest of the world. CDHK has been reporting the fantastic achievements of China and insider information for the last 25 years. I want to congratulate CDHK on its 25th anniversary. Thank you for the great work and for being part of our daily lives.

Heartiest congratulations to China Daily Hong Kong Edition for enriching and educating Hong Kong for 25 years! The subject matters, the content narrative and the writing style continue to be refreshingly different from the usual dailies. The editors’ commitment to maintaining the sanctity of journalism’s quintessential values — of being informative and thought provoking, as opposed to mere reporting; and to provide a pristine standard of the English language, is most impressive and praiseworthy. The quality of the news and opinion articles ensures that the reader enjoys the reading experience and also is correctly informed. Looking forward to the next 25 years!

Since its inception 25 years ago, China Daily Hong Kong Edition has driven the narrative across an ever-changing landscape through its in-depth coverage and unique perspectives on the most important and sometimes difficult issues facing us today.

In the process, it has collected over 118 awards from industry peers across almost every classification of journalism. Strong and focused leadership has seen consistent improvement across physical and virtual editions, and this has resulted in consistent growth in local and international readership.

Strong coverage of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area has already helped entrepreneurs and job seekers take advantage of the abundance of opportunities that closer integration is already providing, particularly in high-value sectors. This will undoubtedly underpin the revitalisation of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s next phase of economic prosperity. It will redefine our international relevance and status as “Asia’s World City”.

It is a great honor to congratulate all of those whose dedication and perseverance have made this possible.

The next 25 years may be even more challenging, but I have no doubt that CDHK will continue to tirelessly inform and drive new and important dialogues.

We live in historic times. The world has gone through the first truly global pandemic since the Spanish flu of 1918. Geopolitical tensions are at an all-time high, old alliances are being tested and new ones formed. The casual observer finds it all difficult to understand because of all the fake news, partial truths and impartial views expressed on social media, especially with regard to China.

This is where China Daily Hong Kong Edition has an essential role to play. By offering a counterview, people will come to see that the China story is more nuanced, which is crucial for global understanding and cooperation. Congratulations on the 25th anniversary of CDHK!
