Macao resumes quarantine-free travel with mainland

HONG KONG – The government of the Macao Special Administrative Region said on Wednesday people could enter the mainland city of Zhuhai without quarantine, a further relaxation of COVID-19 policies as the world's biggest gambling hub seeks a return to normalcy.

Authorities reopened public services and entertainment facilities in Macao on Tuesday.

Starting from 6 pm Wednesday, people leaving Macao for Zhuhai must have a certificate showing a negative COVID-19 test within the past 24 hours and take further two tests within three days of arriving in the mainland city, the government said in a statement. No quarantine is required anymore.

As of Tuesday, Macao has reported no new community COVID-19 cases for 11 consecutive days.  

The Chinese mainland reported registering 38 locally-transmitted confirmed COVID-19  cases and identifying 251 local asymptomatic carriers on Tuesday.

Total 128 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery, bringing the total number of such recovered patients to 223,009, according to the National Health Commission.

No new deaths from COVID-19 were recorded on Tuesday, with the total death toll standing at 5,226, it added.
