Fred Lam appointed Airport Authority chairman

HONG KONG – Fred Lam Tin-fuk, chief executive officer of the Airport Authority Hong Kong since 2014, has been appointed chairman of the authority.

Lam will replace Jack So Chak-kwong who has been at the helm of the AAHK – the statutory body responsible for the operations of the Hong Kong International Airport – for nine years.

The special administrative region government also appointed three new members – Dorothy Chan, Ann Kung Yeung and Perry Yiu – to the authority’s board, and reappointed two serving members – Sabrina Chao and Edwin Tong.

The appointments are for a three-year term and will be effective start from June 1, the government said in a statement.

Extending a warm welcome to Fred Lam on his appointment as chairman, Secretary for Transport and Logistics Lam Sai-hung said Fred Lam is conversant with the business of the AAHK and the HKIA. He has also been appointed to various government advisory and statutory bodies, and has extensive experience in public services.

The transport chief said he is looking forward to working closely with Fred Lam to press ahead with the airport’s long-term development and enhance Hong Kong’s status as an international aviation hub.

He also expressed his gratitude to So for his contribution in leading the authority since 2015 and commended him for his unwavering commitment. He pointed out that So played a pivotal role in major areas such as the planning and construction of a three-runway system, the development of Airport City, the expansion of intermodal transport networks, and the enhancement of air services.

During his tenure, the HKIA won widespread recognition and maintained its status as a world leader in both passenger and cargo transport.
